About Us

 U R Virtually There is a Sole Proprietorship owned and run by Gary Backlund with guidance and support from his SoulMate, Jerry. For more information about Gary’s professional history visit his LinkedIn profile. U R Virtually There was founded to bring Central Kentucky amazing 3D virtual technology. We use cutting edge hardware and software from the two leading companies in the virtual tour space (Matterport and Real Tour Vision). We then match the needs of our customers with the proper mix of technology.

Technology Partners

U R Virtually There is a Matterport Service Partner and a Real Tour Vision Virtual Tour Provider.

Matterport was founded in 2011, has over 200 employees and over 2,600 global partners. Matterport’s Mission Statement is “Our goal is to establish 3D and Virtual Reality (VR) models as a primary medium for experiencing, sharing, and reimagining the world.” Matterport has an ecosystem of hardware and software that gives its Service Partners the ability to deliver a variety of high resolution products. Matterport is based in Sunnyvale, CA.

Real Tour Vision (RTV) was established in 1999, RTV, Inc. is a privately held corporation in Northern Michigan. RTV is a leading provider of virtual tour technology. They proudly supports several hundred thousand real estate agents in 50 countries, as well as 1500+ independent business owners. Today, RTV maintains the world’s largest full-service virtual tour and property marketing network.


We are an Affiliate with the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of Realtors (LBAR). We are listed under Photography and Virtual Tours. 

More about Our Owner

Besides his wife, Jerry, Gary has been passionate about three things in his life; photography, golf, and computers.

Photography – Gary’s passion for photography started with is Dad’s Polaroid Instant Camera. During his travels across the US, Europe, Asia, and South Africa he took numerous pictures with his Canon A-1. Gary captured landscapes, people, architecture, and cultures. Gary now favors the Canon T6i because the features of the newer digital cameras allow for more creativity and instant, amazing, pictures.

Golf – His golf highlights includes Southern California Junior Golfer of the Year, NAIA First Team All-American, Kentucky State Senior Amateur Champion (twice), Kentucky State Senior Player of the Year (twice), and nine club championships from four courses.

Computers – Gary’s computer interest started when MS-DOS 3.2 with the operating system of choice. Gary learned numerous programming languages and how to design programs. Due to his vision he was awarded two U.S Patents for his software/hardware architecture. The patents are for remote video capture/playback and remote camera manipulation. System and method for remote control of surveillance devices Patent date Issued Feb 24, 2004 U.S. Patent # 6,698,021. And System and method for storing and remotely retrieving video images Patent date Issued Apr 22, 2012 U.S. Patent # 20,120,098,970.

Home – Gary is fortunate to have found and married his soulmate, Jerry, nearly 30 years ago. They live outside of Mt Sterling with their two dogs on a fifty acre farm. Jerry works with Gary in scanning properties and keeping the books (and Gary) straight. On the weekends you can usually find them playing golf at Greenbrier Golf and Country Club.
